Yet again this subject has been the most requested service over the past week for our investigators in the Midlands and Staffordshire. Week after week companies are getting in contact with us because of staff who have been off work for long periods of time and the company have had doubts about the situation.
Our experience is that whilst it is a major problem and cost for these businesses they do not seem to be being heartless or cruel, they genuinely think that the employees are “swinging the lead”. Unfortunately, we have to say that each case we have investigated have shown the company to be correct.
The companies all tell a very similar story: The problem with these absences are that the cost is huge, other staff get very resentful having to cover for the absentee, it is very difficult to plan workloads and they don’t like it when someone is stealing from them. Yes that is right stealing, for that is what it is.
Frequent absence is just as difficult for businesses as long term. Other staff get very upset at having to provide cover. The business has to suffer if there is one staff down, otherwise they would not need them in the first place. Jobs get behind schedule and customers are let down.
We love to catch cheating people in all kind of situations but cheating employees who potentially can put the business itself in trouble and risk the jobs of other staff give us particular pleasure.
